It’s a rare privilege to be up close and personal among sharks and corals and the myriad of denizens of the deep. At Ithaa Undersea Restaurant, you don’t only get that privilege, you get to dine on a six-course contemporary European cuisine, under them, while beholding a 180°-panoramic view of Neptune’s paradise all around you, five metres below the surface of the Indian Ocean. Opened in 2005, Ithaa Undersea Restaurant with its all-glass encasing that lets you immerse yourself on seabed wonderland, was rated “the most beautiful restaurant in the world” by the New York Daily News. And rightly so! It is a small restaurant but nevertheless, seats 14. Ithaa means “mother of pearl” in the Maldivian language of Dhivehi, by the way. If you’re there at the Maldives, you need to check this out. Ithaa can also be privately booked for breakfast, weddings or other special occasions. Featured pic and other pics from Conrad Hotels.
