So it was a hot hit in cinemas not too many moons ago. Annabelle Creation, the cause of many terrified screams and swoons in theatre halls all over the world, is actually a prequel to 2014’s Annabelle ─ produced by Peter Safran and James Wan, which in turn, was a prequel to 2013’s The Conjuring which was the…
Alright, alright, enough back tracking on prequels already.
We’ll cut to the chase and talk about Annabelle and how she went from sweet little girl to bad ass murderous doll, but consequently becoming the latest star of the cult movie franchise.
The story goes like this: After the accidental death of their 7-year-old daughter Annabelle in 1943, a dollmaker by the name of Samuel Mullins and his wife Esther were convinced that the spirit of their daughter had returned and entered into one of Samuel’s porcelain dolls. Their joy was short-lived when they realised that the entity in the doll was not their daughter’s spirit but a demon. Frightened, they locked the doll in a closet in Annabelle’s room and threw away the key.
Twelve years later, in 1955, the Mullins, thinking that everything was now safe, opened their home to provide shelter for a nun and six girls after their orphanage got shut down. Soon, the doll “calls” to one of the girls, to release it from its prison. The orphan opens the previously locked door to Annabelle’s room and unwittingly unleashes the dollmaker’s possessed creation Annabelle, to madness, mayhem and murder.
It was a box offfice hit.
Personally, I have never been a fan of dolls, much less doll horror movies (there have been so many, for instance, Chucky comes to mind) but then Halloween’s coming up this October 31st, and here is a current and cuddly character to dress up as.
Go get’em, you Annabelles.
