A CLASSIC TEARJERKER, TERMS OF ENDEARMENT isn’t shy about reaching for the heartstrings but it is so well acted and smartly scripted that you can’t but hold the film to endearment, even though it has been over three decades since the film was released. Some things are just timeless. Like relationships. Shirley MacLain who played Aurora, took home an Academy Award for her portrayal of a mother struggling to connect with both her daughter Emma (Debra Winger) and an alcoholic suitor (Jack Nicholson). Just when everything seemed to be working out, Emma finds herself with terminal cancer. Supported by Aurora in one of the most moving scenes of the movie, she makes peace with her children and estranged husband before she dies. Well, I did mention it’s a tearjerker, didn’t I?
